The Faulkner County Budget and Finance Committee will meet today to discuss preliminary estimates received for renovations to the Faulkner County Courthouse.
Rik Sowell, president of Sowell and Russell Architects, sent County Administrator Jeff Johnston a letter relating the company's findings from a walk-through of the courthouse on March 13. At present, the firm estimates $50,000 in renovations for the courthouse.
The firm has requested a set of building plans so that a team of engineers can accurately draw up plans "to define the scope of the proposed work." Once plans are received, the plans will be entered into a computer using AUTO-CAD software.
"As you and I discussed with Mr. Lonnie Williams of Nabholz Construction, we anticipate the plumbing and electrical systems will be completely replaced. Some of the HVAC systems may possibly remain, particularly the newer units and ductwork. The existing roof will be removed and a new rubber roof with a slight slope will be installed. Other work will include window replacement, interior finishes and exterior cleaning," Sowell wrote in the letter to Johnston.
If the proposal by Sowell and Russell Architects is accepted, Sowell says the firm will be ready to begin renovations immediately.
