Hendrix College center fielder Brooke Monson was a combined five for nine with three runs scored and three runs batted but the Warriors dropped two games to Trinity University in softball Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Tigers won the first game, 12-7, and held on for a 6-5 10-inning victory in the second game.
The Warriors (11-23) will remain at No. 3 with a 7-7 mark in the SCAC's West Division, while Trinity stays at No. 1 with a 17-17 overall record and 12-2 mark in the West. The two teams will wrap up their series with a doubleheader at noon today.
Hendrix's game one starter, Jaclyn Herrera, lasted just 0.2 innings as the Tigers jumped to 7-0 lead on six hits and two errors in the first inning. The Warriors scored three times in the bottom half of the first when Hanna Braden scored on an error, before Monson (Wetumpka, tagged a two-run double to center.
Trinity increased its advantage with one run in the second and four runs in the third.
Hendrix scored two runs in the third and fourth In the third inning, Heather Stroud hammered a two-run double to right center to score Monson and Sara Hunter. Braden led off the fourth with a base knock to left and scored on an error, while Stroud brought home her third run of the game with a single up the middle.
The Tigers (16) and Warriors (13) combined for 29 hits and each team had just one walk in the slugfest. Monson, three for four, two RBI, led the way for Hendrix, while Stroud (two for four, three RBI) and Braden picked up two hits apiece.
Trinity junior RHP Kate Wright picked the win and improved to 10-0 on the year.
The Warriors nearly pulled out a come-from-behind victory in the second game. Hendrix held a 1-0 lead for the first five innings of play until the Tigers scored three runs in the sixth.
Trinity added one run in the seventh, before the Warriors rallied for three runs with two outs in the bottom half to knot the game at 4-4. Hendrix collected six straight singles in the big inning.
With the tiebreaker in effect, he Tigers managed two runs in the final inning to get the advantage for good.
Helen Thompson earned the win, while Wright picked up the save.
Herrera entered in the seventh and gave up two runs and six hits for the loss.
