Faulkner County prosecutors charged a Greenbrier woman with negligent homicide, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated Wednesday after a Quitman teenager riding with her was killed in a wreck at Greenbrier on Sunday.
Elisa Michelle "Lisa" Cornish, 20, of Arka Valley Road was still in county custody Wednesday night in lieu of $25,000 bond. Arkansas State Police say her passenger, Vincent Geerts, 16, of Quitman, was killed in the 9:15 p.m. accident after a 1997 Ford Taurus driven by Cornish failed to negotiate a curve northbound on Highway 25.
The Taurus went airborne off a clear and dry road and struck a tree, according to the ASP report. Prosecutors say Cornish, who was treated and released at Conway Regional Medical Center before being booked into jail, had a blood alcohol concentration level of at least .08 during the accident.
If convicted of negligent homicide, Cornish could be sentenced to 3-10 years in prison, according to Arkansas' normal sentencing guidelines.
Also at Faulkner County Circuit Court, probable cause has been found to charge six persons who appeared Wednesday:
Otis Griffen, 41, Conway, 600 block of 6th Avenue failure to apear; felony third-degree domestic battery. Bond was denied pending a May 7 hearing. Division 1 bench trial was set for June 2.
Stase Cannon, 25, Mount Vernon, 1700 block of Highway 36 second-degree sexual assault. Bond was set at $10,000. Division 1 pretrial was set for July 31.
