Wayne Lee Helfer Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family at his home in Enola on Saturday.
Wayne was born April 22, 1939, in Gillespie, Ill. He was retired from Chicago Northwestern Railroad, now known as Union Pacific Railroad.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Velma Throne Davis, Billy Joe Davis and LeRoy Helfer of Gillespie, Ill.; and a son, Curtis Helfer of Vilonia.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jennie L. Taylor Helfer of Enola; two sons, Wayne Helfer Jr. of Butler, Mo., and Larry (Vickie) Helfer of Enola; six daughters, Debbie Wilson of Conway, Trudy Helfer of Houston, Texas, Laura (Matt) Pate of Romance, Cindy Mahan of Greenbrier, Candy Horton of Conway and Lisa (Kevin) Atkinson of Naylor; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Jeff (Michele) Davis of Conway; and sister, Marie (Jim) Kissinger of Bradford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, with Bro. Joe Engdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Vilonia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark Gonia, Michael Mahan, Gary Helfer, Stephen Helfer, Corey Armer, Noah Horton, Justin Nellis and Wesley Price.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Darnell, Jeremy Davis, Jeff Davis, Jeff Palmere, Jonathon Reynolds, Kevin Atkinson, Clinton Stiller, Jason Stiller, Lewis Kelly and Rick York.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, AR 72034, 501-327-5000.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to cancer research.
