University of Central Arkansas women's coach Matt Daniel has added 6-foot-3 post Megan Moss from Central Arizona College to complement the trio of guards that signed earlier in the spring signing period.
"Obviously, it's no secret we needed help in the post," Daniel said. "And I think Megan gives us that immediately. She can come right in and give us more depth in the post and be a banger on the low block. I've said before that we want to compete on a national level, and with her playing for the No. 2 junior college in the country, I think this is a step in the right direction."
Moss, from Coolidge, Ariz., played one season at Central Arizona College and will have three years with the Sugar Bears. In her season at CAC, the Vaqueras finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the country and ended with a 33-1 record, winning their games by an average of 39.9 points. Their lone loss was a one-point defeat in the National Junior College Athletic Association national championship game.
"She's aware of what it takes to compete at the highest level," Daniel said. "Her stats don't measure what I feel like she's capable of because she played behind high-major post players and competed against them every day. I like her skill level, her hands and she's a good student. She had D-I offers out of high school but decided to pass on those to try to win a national championship at Central Arizona."
At Central Arizona, she played under legendary coach Lin Laursen, who will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on June 14. The retiring Laursen goes out as the winningest coach in NJCAA history, with a career record of 970-145 and 31 seasons of 20-plus wins in her 34 years.
The Sugar Bears signed Jasmine Canser and Destinee Rogers of Camden Fairview, and Nakeia Guiden of Guy-Perkins last month.
