GREENBRIER Central Baptist College's softball coach Jason Anderson heavily believes in keeping talent close to home.
After the conclusion of Greenbrier's 4-3 upset win over Vilonia on Monday, Alyssa Ford signed a letter of intent to play catcher for the Lady Mustangs.
"I'm just real excited about going there and hopefully I get a chance to play," Ford said. "I'm going to try my best. Every since I've been catcher, I've just had so much fun. I really don't know much about coach Anderson, but I have gone over there and practiced with them."
Michelle Ford said that her daughter picked up the sport at the age of 3. Ford also said she was proud and excited about her daughter's chances to play in college.
"She's a great leader on the team, just helping us out," Greenbrier softball coach Brian Butler said. "She's been back there for years catching, and she's done a wonderful job. She has just been hanging in there and she even got hurt one year."
Ford has played the same position for Greenbrier High every since she started playing varsity ball in the ninth grade. Ford has been amongst the leaders in hits, runs and RBI in her high school career.
"It's a great opportunity for her to sign on and play at the next level," Butler said. "If she works hard then she can do a great job there."
Ford was wanting to attend college somewhere that wouldn't be far away from her mother. Ford is the second Faulkner County player to sign with CBC in as many weeks. Vilonia's Hannah Eubanks signed on last week with the Lady Mustangs to give them a boost in the bullpen.
"I really didn't want to have to leave my mom," Ford said. "I was debating on where I should go. Then, CBC came to me with an offer and I'm taking it."
