HENDRIX TRUSTEES DECIDE TO ADD FOOTBALL
After a 13-month study and debate, Hendrix College's board of trustees has decided to add football to the college's athletic program. Football was discontinued at Hendrix after the 1960 season because of costs. No timetable was set for football to be implemented, but trustees said the sport will only be implemented after start-up costs are raised from external sources. Trustees have also voted to add women's lacrosse with the same stipulation. Further details in Wednesday's editions of the Log Cabin Democrat.

Police Beat

Among recent reports generated by local law enforcement agencies:

1. Theft of services at 1003 Museum Road and 908 East Oak Street. A man described as tall, thin and well-dressed asked to exchange five $20 bills for one $100 bill. Workers at the two locations agreed to the exchange and both times the man apparently used slight of hand to swap the $100 bill for a $10, and claimed the workers made a mistake. The workers believed they had mistakenly handed the man a $10 bill and exchanged the $10 bill for a $100. Both cash registers were found to be $90 short.

2. Residential burglary at 400 block of Mildred Street. Someone stole three laptop computers, a game console and two DVD players.

3. Residential burglary at 2100 block of Hutto Street. A man knocked on a residence's door and asked for someone named Cody. No Cody lived there. The resident then saw the man steal a gas can from his garage. The resident confronted the man, and also noticed a chainsaw in the man's vehicle, which the resident thought was his. The man gave the resident the chainsaw, saying "it ain't mine but it ain't yours either" and fled before the resident could call 9-1-1. The chainsaw, which did not belong to the resident, was taken to CPD.

4. Residential Burglary at 1400 block of Clifton Street. A resident hid in a closet and called 9-1-1 after seeing a man climb through the front window. A wallet was stolen.

7. Driving while intoxicated arrest at 1600 Washington Ave. Paul Anderson, 21, of Memphis, was cited with DWI.

8. Criminal mischief at 2300 block of Stout Street. Someone threw a brick through a vehicle window.

The preceding reports were gathered from among those made available by the reporting agencies. (Staff writer Joe Lamb can be reached by e-mail at joe.lamb@thecabin.net or by phone at 505-1238. Send us your news at www.thecabin.net/submit)
