The Central Arkansas Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo in Conway enjoys a little extra promotional help from Miss Rodeo Arkansas 2008, Dilynn Dodd. From passing out tickets at area schools to television and radio interviews, Dodd's promotion of the rodeo sport can be nothing but good news for Conway's event.
Dodd, 22, is a daughter of David and Debbie Dodd, both of Springdale. Her rodeo career started at the age of 6 when she began competing in junior rodeos. In high school, her rodeo events included cutting, barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, goat tying and team roping. Her performances in those events helped her achieve the Arkansas High School Rodeo Association All-around Cowgirl in 2003.
After graduating high school, she attended the Arkansas-Monticello for two years obtaining her associate's degree, where she was on the rodeo team. She then returned to northwest Arkansas to finish a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. While attending there, she was a member of the honorary societies Alpha Zeta and Gamma Sigma Delta. During this time she also served as Miss Rodeo of the Ozarks 2006.
Dodd still rodeos. She competes in barrel racing and breakaway roping in the Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association (CRRA) and the Arkansas Rodeo Association (ARA). While continuing to rodeo, representing the rodeo sport and the natural state of Arkansas, Dodd is also substitute teaching when she is home.
Dodd's passion for rodeo lives deep within who she is - a true cowgirl through and through. She is proud to be Miss Rodeo Arkansas 2008 and will be traveling not only throughout Arkansas but across the United States attending rodeos and making other appearances.
Dodd will attend the Conway rodeo both Friday and Saturday, and is on the schedule to barrel race Saturday night.
The pro rodeo will be Friday and Saturday at the Don Owen Sports Complex in Conway.
Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for children 7-12 years; 6 and under are free. Admission gates will open at 5 p.m. with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night, rain or shine.
