A Conway man died Tuesday afternoon after being stung by a wasp.

Robert Martin, 34, was preparing to mow the lawn of a neighbor on Old Military Road about 3 p.m. when he was stung by a wasp apparently angered because its nest had been disturbed.

Martin, who was highly allergic to wasp and bee stings, went inside the home of the neighbor, Betty Brady, where her son, Shawn Brady, gave him an anti-venin injection, according to Allan Brady, another son.

However, the injection did not help. Sean Brady and Martin's mother, Shirley Martin, administered CPR, but Martin was dead when an ambulance arrived 20 minutes after being called, according to Allan Brady.

Allan Brady said the family was told by the coronor's office Martin's death was apparently caused by a heart attack, perhaps brought on by the sting, but not directly due to the sting itself.

Coroner Patrick Moore was unavailable for comment.
