Four people were injured in two accidents on Interstate 40 near the Mayflower exit that shut down traffic on the eastbound side for about half an hour on Wednesday.
State Trooper Jeffrey Plouch said the accidents happened about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. Plouch said Burwin Lairy, 28, driver of a 2001 Ford Explorer, was westbound on Interstate 40 when his vehicle had a blowout, lost control and collided with a 2006 Ford Freestyle driven by Eric Brandt, 55.
As a result of the first accident, Kelly Stafford, 40, driver of a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe, who was eastbound in the left lane, slowed down and was struck from behind by Donald Fondren, driver of a 1995 Toyota Tercel.
All vehicles were in the median while troopers were conducting their investigation. A helicopter landed in the eastbound lanes, which were blocked by emergency vehicles for 30 to 40 minutes.
Plouch said a female passenger in the Toyota was taken by helicopter to Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, while the driver of the vehicle and two juvenile passengers were taken by ambulance to Conway Regional Medical Center.
