To honor pet owners in Faulkner County and Central Arkansas, the Humane Society of Faulkner County is hosting a Pet Pageant at Beaver Fork Park on Nov. 1.
The Pageant will be a part of the larger Bark-in-the-Park event, which will include agility demonstrations, a dog scooter race, refreshments, face painting, and carnival games. The pageant will kick-off at noon, while Bark-in-the-Park will commence at 10 a.m.
There will be three winners of the pageant: Mr. and Miss Bark-in-the-Park and Most Loveable. All ages, sizes, shapes and colors, mixed or pure-bred are eligible to win Mr. and Miss Bark-in-the-Park. To be eligible for Most Loveable, the contestant must be spayed or neutered. Costumes for the contestants and their handlers are encouraged, but not required. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to each winner.
Judges for the event will be any person willing to pay $10 for a ballot and watch the pageant. Ballots will be available at the Bark-in-the-Park event. Those planning to watch the event are asked to bring lawn chairs for their comfort.
Entry forms will be available at PetSmart, Pet County, Companions Thrift Store on Washington Avenue in Conway, and Hartman Animal Hospital on Hogan Lane. All entry forms should be mailed to the Humane Society at P.O. Box 1055, Conway, Ark. 72033. Email requests for the entry form are also possible by e-mailing hsfc@conwaycorp.net. Phone requests for a ballot are not likely to be successful. Entry fee for the pageant is $30, which includes a T-shirt. All entry forms (with entry fee) should be postmarked no later than Oct. 27 in order to allow time for the preparation of the ballot.
Proceeds from the event will support the Humane Society's ongoing spay/neuter programs and its adoption program. The Humane Society would greatly appreciate sponsors for the event with donations starting at $250. All sponsors will be recognized at the event and on the back of the event T-shirt.
The Humane Society of Faulkner County i(HSFC) is a non-profit organization that depends on donations to help injured, abused and homeless animals in the county.
The HSFC has no shelter; it is dependent on foster families to nurture animals until they are adopted. A major focus of HSFC is on sterilization of companion pets since overpopulation of dogs and cats continues to cost the residents of the county.
