Cabin publisher Morrissey takes job in Athens

Scot Morrissey has been named the next publisher of the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald succeeding Jeff Wilson, who will retire at the end of the year after 41 years of service. The announcement was made today by William S. Morris IV, president and CEO of Morris Publishing Group.

"We're delighted that Scot is assuming this role in Athens," Morris said. "He is a proven leader and has a successful track record as a publisher in our company. Scot has a strong vision for the future of the newspaper business and the skills necessary to make that vision a reality. He will be a great asset to the Banner-Herald and to the community it serves."

Morrissey has been the publisher of the Log Cabin Democrat, also published by Morris, since 2001 and has more than two decades of experience in the newspaper industry.

Scot began his newspaper career in 1993 as a photo editor of The Examiner, Independence (MO). In 1994 he was promoted to Quality Control Coordinator of The Examiner and in 2000 he was named publisher of the Glenwood Post and general manager of Western Slope Publishing Group (Glenwood Springs, CO).

The search for a new publisher in Conway is currently under way.

Jim Currow, executive vice president of newspapers for Morris, said, "Scot has a broad range of experience that includes every facet of the newspaper business. His management style is very much like Jeff's a collaborative one. Jeff's contributions to the community and the newspaper industry have been many we are going to miss him. We are delighted to welcome a seasoned newspaper professional to the Banner-Herald who will pick up right where Jeff left off."

Morris Publishing Group, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Morris Communications Company, LLC, a privately held media company based in Augusta, Ga. Morris Publishing owns and operates 13 daily newspapers as well as non-daily newspapers, city magazines and free community publications in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and Alaska.
