Oakland Methodist Church was beautifully decorated by Charles D. Parsons. Last Sunday as our worshipers entered and enjoyed the huge Red poinsettias, garland, lights, red velvet bows and advent wreath. We praised God for the beauty.
Our people braved the fog and came out that morning, but our Christmas program was postponed from last Sunday night until tomorrow at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
The spirit was great at Holland Baptist Church last Sunday as worship began with the baptism of three children, Koty Harris, Devyn Harris and Makayla Mitchell. Jerry Engdahl gave the baptistry a new coat of paint prior to the baptism. Bro. Ron Theis baptized, led song service and preached.
Ross Engdahl is teaching the senior adult Sunday school class and Kelly Smith is teaching the young ladies class. Frank Tillery blessed them with a new offertory song. Shelly Resecker played a wonderful piece the week before.
The church ladies monthly fellowship meal was at the home of Kathy Pearce on Tuesday evening. They pray more will join each month as these continue.
Kathy Pearce enjoyed an evening at Mount Caramel Baptist Church in Cabot recently. Her daughter and two granddaughters, Carla, Haley and Hannah White were in the Christmas program. J.O.Y. was a wonderful production, directed by worship pastor, Robert Ramsey and the orchestra by Joe Trusty.
Ray and I attended a family gathering, celebrating McKinley Grace McKissack's first birthday last Saturday at her home. What a crowd of little ones. There were 15 children from age 10 to eight months.
Robert McElroy had major surgery last week at Conway Regional and is back home now. He thanks everyone for their prayers, cards and calls.
Have a good safe week.

As I am writing this I am not a nanna yet, but as you are reading this I should be a nanna. Dana and Jerry were supposed to be at the hospital last Thursday for them to induce labor. So I will let you all know about the new grandson next week if not before.
Last weekend, Sandy Dowdy was home for the weekend. We tried to get ready for Christmas doing the cleaning and such cause Sandy says Santa can't come into a dirty house and get his beard dirty or he won't come back. She is counting the days to Christmas. Saturday, she and I went to have our pictures made for the for the new director at the Greenbrier Church of Christ and then went shopping. When we got back we went to eat fish with Gary Griffith and my mom, Betty Griffith, at Quitman. Mom wasn't feeling well all day but I am glad that Gary came up and talked her into going out to eat. She missed the Christmas lunch at Birch 8 at the Conway Human Development Center, cause she wasn't feeling well. She said to tell everyone hello.
Sunday, I made two crock pots of taco soup, yes sometimes I do cook, one was with onions and the other without. The following were there for lunch: Jerry and Dana, Sandy Dowdy of Conway, Johnny Dowdy of Quitman, Carolyn Hays of Bryant, Betty Griffith and myself of Guy. Believe it or not it was all eaten except the bowls everyone took home with them. We had a good day and quality time together
Please keep the following your prayers: Pat Swann, who was hit on Highway 65 by a log truck that ran a stop light last Friday evening, we wish her a speedy recovery, Till Thorn, Trash Thorn, Bob Turner, who had surgery last Thursday on his arm, Betty Griffith, Vic Rowell, who is training to go to Iraq and all of those other 3,000 men and woman that are being shipped out soon to Iraq, those who have lost loved ones and those that are sick.
There are only 10 more days till Christmas. Hope you have your shopping done cause it getting down to the wire now.
Have a great week and please remember to not drink and rive and if you make that choice to drink Please don't drive and have a designated driver. The best policy old be to stay at home and not drive. We don't want anyone to lose a loved one or anyone to be injured because someone made the wrong choice to drink and drive.

Christmas is upon us. I finally got my shopping done this past week. Susan, Chelsey and I started out at 8 a.m. and got home at 5:30 p.m. All I have to do now is get it wrapped. We had a great time together. I am so blessed to have a daughter and granddaughter who still like to spend time with mom and memaw.
Sheri Burnette celebrated her 50th birthday last weekend with lunch at Ryan's Steakhouse. Her special guests were, her mother, Valta Burnette, and sister, Judy Lehman of Conway. Also attending were Modena Smith, Jeanie Blumenkamper, Mary Lue Carr, Wanda Lindsey and Halogene Mason of Wooster and Kelly Paloneque of Van Couver, Wash. Happy birthday, Sheri.
The Ladies Sunday School Class of Wooster First Baptist Church had their Christmas party at Ryan's Steakhouse on Sunday. There were 10 ladies present with three visitors.
Visitors with Irene Scroggins and Billy Hardy recently were Helen Tindall, Hattie Hankins, Gale Garrison, Kirk, Peggy, Randy and Hannah Hardy, Freddie Mark Wilcox, Mickey McMillen, Merle Noggle, Rege Smith, Maxine McMillen and Rick and Kathy Watson. Irene and Billy are doing very well so far this winter.
Ed and Linda Hammontree and Bill and I went to Branson last weekend with a group from Antioch Baptist Church and Springhill Baptist Church. There were several from around the community who were on the trip so I will not try to name them as I will probably leave some off. We had a great time. We saw the Shoji Tabuchi Christmas Show and A Tribute to John Denver. We had dinner at the Golden Corral and they had an entertainer in the area we were seated in. We only had a couple of hours for shopping, but we made the best of it.
The community sends our sympathy to the family of Bernice McKaskill Johnson who passed away this past week. Bernice was the widow of the late Thurman McKaskle.
Thanks to those who helped me with the column this week.

Bonnie Connell of Quitman recently paid a visit to Royce and Glenna Shumate of Centerville.
Alton Shumate, Royce Shumate's brother, recently underwent a medical procedure in St. Louis. We hope he is doing better and will get well very soon.
A sister-in-law of Mike Daniel, our pastor at Centerville Methodist, has been fighting cancer for three years. Last Sunday, he reported that her white blood cell count was extremely low. I now hear that her cell count has risen substantially. Please be in prayer for Kathy Frohnappel and her husband, Michael, of Orlando, Fla. We hope she whips the cancer.
For the past 10 years or so, I have been a volunteer at Acoustic Sounds Caf in Little Rock. Last night, I attended the farewell concert as the Caf will go on sabbatical for at least a year. Whether or not it resumes after 2008 remains to be seen. ASC has been an institution, so I hate to see it end but, a lot of work goes into putting the shows together and Joe Henry, ASC's coordinator, is getting tired. A more local, similar venue is the Advent Arts and Acoustics Caf at Advent Lutheran Church, 900 Farris Road in Conway. You might like to attend one of their shows. They're always very good.
And I'll close this week by bragging on my little cousin. Barbie Hamel is the music director at the Church of the Nazarene in Heber Springs. She has just successfully pulled off another Christmas Cantata. In addition to the angelic voices of the choir, she added piano, two flutes, and a saxophone. The performance got a resounding applause. Congratulations to my cousin, Barbie. I'm so very proud of her.
