There was no doubt that Mayflower's Deshaun Bagby and Stuart Hollon were headed to play football on the next level after watching what they did in the fall.
Throughout last season, Bagby was rated as one of the state's top rated college prospects at running backs, according to Rivals.com. Bagby ended the season with several awards, including the Offensive Player of the Year in the 2-3A Conference. Hollon terrorized opposing offenses at the defensive end position last season. The Mayflower duo was selected to the East football team for the Arkansas High School Coaches Association all-star game June 26 at Bentonville High.
"Both of those guys were a huge part of our program," Mayflower coach Jed Davis said. "They were leaders in their own way on the field."
Davis continued, "Coaches came to me after the game and said No. 53 was a wrecking ball. The coaches had to prepare for him every week at defense end. With Deshaun, you never knew if he was going to have a 2-yard run or an 85-yard run. He just had that type of ability. I can only imagine what type of numbers he could have put up if he played the whole game. He just have the ability to make people miss."
Hollon signed to play at Missouri Southern next fall, and Bagby decided to walk-on at Ole Miss. Both players have registered for class. Hollon has decided to spend his summer with his future teammates.
"I'm grateful to have been named to the all-star team. It's been a long time since I've hit somebody," Hollon said. "It's going to be my last high school game, and I'm going out to have fun."
Bagby was glad to hear that Hollon was going to be his teammate one more time.
"Stuart deserves to be in the all-star game more than everybody," Bagby said. "He goes out and gives 100 percent at practice and in the games. Hopefully, we can go out and get a win on our last high school game. We weren't able to win a state championship, so maybe we can win this one. That would be nice."
