Glenda G. Alexander

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Glenda G. Alexander, 72, of Conway and most recently of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Aug. 4, 2009. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alver and Nina Wilkerson.

Glenda is survived by Jim Alexander of Georgetown, Texas; sisters, Dianne Wyatt and husband Wendell of Waxahachie, Texas, and Debbie Aaron and husband Frankie of Marshall, Texas; three children, Mike Alexander of Merriam, Kan., Wes Alexander and wife Tamra of Conway and Angela Hasler and husband Mitch of Sherwood; six grandchildren, Kristen, Ashley, Meredith, Max, Cole and Lindsey; three step-grandchildren, Justin, Keli and Kelley; and one great-grandchild, Riley.

She was involved in several endeavors including owning her own business, but the most rewarding was acting as the activities director for the Faulkner County Senior Citizen’s Center.  She was also a member of the Faulkner County Literacy Council.

Glenda was an enthusiastic golfer, tennis player, bowler and loved collecting owl figurines and spoiling her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and wit.  Her smile, funny stories and problem solving abilities will be missed by the many who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local chapter of the American Heart and Lung Association or Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock in Glenda’s memory. 

A memorial service in Shreveport, La., will be announced at a later date.

Billie Lee Barrow

Billie Lee Barrow, 80, of Vilonia, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009. He was born June 4, 1929, in St. Angelo, Texas, to the late Charlie L. and Gladys Rose Barrow.

He is preceded in death by one son, Richard Barrow.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda Barrow; son, Robert A. Barrow of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Nancy L. Reed of Vilonia; two brothers and one sister, Dorothy Barrow; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and dear friends.

Graveside Services will be Friday at noon with military honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave. in North Little Rock with Bro. Johnny Wooly officiating.

Ruth Kendrick

Ruth Kendrick, 81, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009. She was born June 30, 1928 at Pottsville, the daughter of Clyde and Lois Kendrick Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Pryor; daughter, Joan Caudle; and a grandson. 

She is survived by daughters, Doris McGuire and Barbara Metz; sons, Wesley Kendrick, Gary Kendrick, George Kendrick, Paul Kendrick and Bill Kendrick; one sister; four brothers;  and 23 grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church with burial at Pisgah Cemetery in Pottsville. 

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. 

Services are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville. 



Rhonda D. Macon

Rhonda D. Macon, 33, of Conway, died Aug. 10, 2009.  

She was born to Louise Noble Morris and Bobby J. Macon on June 4, 1976, in Conway.  

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.  

She is survived by her parents, Louise and Charles Morris and Bobby Macon;  two sisters, Rosalyn Macon and Regina Collins; and one brother, Christopher Morris. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at House Of Refuge and Deliverance Church, 748 Hwy 365 South, Mayflower.  

Interment Palarm Chapel Cemetery in Mayflower.  

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home, Conway. 



Carolyn Camp Smith

Carolyn Camp Smith, 83, of Conway, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Carolyn was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Conway, one of two children of the late Guy A. Camp and Ethel B. Camp. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Guy A. Camp Jr.

After graduating from Conway High School in 1942, Carolyn attended Hendrix College where she completed a degree in economics in 1946. In 1948 she married Samuel Theodore "Ros" Smith Jr. of Conway. As a Navy bride, she was stationed with her husband in San Diego, Calif., Pensacola, Fla., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Key West, Fla., before returning home to Conway in 1955.

Carolyn was a member and past president of Chapter E of PEO, Conway Junior Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was the registrar at Hall High School and worked for the Arkansas Wildlife Federation. She was devoted to her family, particularly her grandchildren, and to her many friends and will be remembered as a gracious, hospitable lady who loved traveling, gardening and bird watching.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ros Smith; son, Ted Smith and wife Laurie; daughter, Cathy Ketcheside and husband Kenne, all of Conway; and son, David Smith and wife Barbara of Washington, D.C.; and by her grandchildren, Sam and Cate Ketcheside of Conway, Emily Smith of Fayetteville, Margaret Smith of Conway and Laura and Jenny Smith of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by her sisters-in law, Nancy C. Smith (widow of the late Dr. Thomas W. Smith) of Little Rock and Jo Smith (widow of the late Gallatin H. Smith) of Conway and their families.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the loving care given to her by her special caregivers during her illness.

A memorial service, in celebration of Carolyn’s life, will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince St., in Conway at 11 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Memorials in remembrance of Carolyn can be made to the permanent endowment for First United Methodist Church.
