Sen. Jason Rapert (R), reaffirmed his commitment to run for re-election to the Arkansas Senate.

After the recent announcement by Congressman Tim Griffin that he would not seek re-election to the 2nd Congressional District, some had speculated that Rapert would run for the open seat in Congress.

"While I appreciate the calls and encouragement to run for Congress, in June of this year I announced my re-election campaign for the Arkansas Senate, and I remain completely committed to that decision," Rapert said. "It is an honor to serve the citizens of Conway, Faulkner County and Perry County in the Senate and I want to continue that service.

"I am fortunate to be in a position to serve two more full terms in the Arkansas Senate which is a benefit to my community. I enjoy getting things done and the Senate has allowed me the opportunity to do that. My family is very important to me and I want to remain in Arkansas during the last few years we have with our young children."

Former North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays will announce his intention to run for the seat on the Democratic ticket today. No Republican has made an official announcement to run yet.
