As the number of days until Christmas dwindles, the occurrences of shoplifting ascends.

The Conway Police Department responded to at least five reports of shoplifting in the last weekend before Christmas, according to department incident reports. In the incidents, police made four arrests and more than $950 in stolen merchandise was recovered.

Officers responded to Walmart, located in the 1100 block of Skyline Drive, around 4:44 p.m. Sunday and arrested two Greenbrier men who were seen concealing items by store employees.

The two men, ages 45 and 48, were taken into custody by police and charged with theft of property.

Earlier Sunday, officers responded to Home Depot, located in the 500 block of Elsinger Boulevard, around 10:58 a.m., to another report of shoplifting.

Store employees told officers a white male was seen leaving with a micro-torch kit and mini-torch, which he did not purchase. Employees say the man concealed the items, while in the bathroom, before leaving the store. The suspect was said to have left in a white, 1990s model Honda Accord.

The stolen merchandise was valued at $25.97.

Conway police responded, once again, to Walmart on Skyline Drive to another report of shoplifting around 3:50 p.m. Saturday.

While speaking with a loss prevention employee about an unrelated shoplifting incident, officers observed a 60-year-old Greenbrier woman attempting to leave the store with a cart full of merchandise. The woman later admitted to attempting to steal more than $720 worth of items, and was transported to the Faulkner County jail.

While on scene, officers also arrested a 22-year-old Conway man that attempted to return an item for cash, then retrieved the same item off a store shelf and attempted to leave without paying.

Police also responded to Belk, located in the 600 block of Elsinger Boulevard, around 4:52 p.m. Friday, and arrested a 22-year-old Conway woman who store employees said attempted to steal $170 in merchandise.
