GREENBRIER — It's official. The following candidates registered to run for election to the Greenbrier City Council in the November 4 election. Sammy Joe Hartwick is running for Mayor of Greenbrier. He grew up in Greenbrier and is a Greenbrier High School graduate. He and his wife, Cheryl, work for the Greenbrier School District. Hartwick first worked for the City Water Department in the early 80s. He then was elected an Alderman on the City Council in 1990. Mayor Cotton appointed him Recorder/Treasurer in 1996 where he still serves the City. He was the first Executive Director of the Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce and served as President for three years. He was voted Citizen of the Year in 1994. He also spent twenty years as a Volunteer Fireman, finally leaving them in 2000. Mayor Cotton will not be running again.
David Browning, Mary Ann Freeman and Dean Strickland also all registered to be re-elected to their current seats on the City Council. Browning serves Greenbrier District called W1-P2, East of Hwy 65 and south of Hwy 225.
Mary Ann Freeman is well known and has also served on the Council for many years. Her district is called W3-P2 which is east of Hwy 65 and north of Hwy 225.
Dean Strickland is another long-time Councilman serving district W2-P2, all west of Highway 65.
