The University of Central Arkansas Bears had two come-from-behind victories over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday to complete the Southland Conference sweep at Bear Stadium.

UCA overcame a 2-1 deficit in the opener and won 3-2 with a walk-off single by senior Logan Preston in the bottom of the ninth. In the nightcap, the Bears scored four runs in the seventh inning to come back from down 4-1 and win 5-4.

The Bears (9-6, 3-0) trailed in all three games on the weekend but completed the sweep with no starting pitcher recording a victory against SFA (8-8, 0-3). The UCA bullpen won all three games, including wins by senior Derek Beier in the first game and sophomore Chris Durham in the second on Sunday.

Tyler Langley of Conway finished 3 for 5 in the second game.

The Bears’ game against Little Rock, scheduled Tuesday night, has been moved to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.


CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas took a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday in the rubber game of the Southland Conference softball series.

Just like the first two games in the series, the Bears (16-8, 2-1 SLC) got an outstanding performance from their starting pitcher. Junior Kayla Gomness (4-1) earned her second complete game of the weekend, and her fourth of the season, limiting the Islanders (11-11, 1-2 SLC) to just one run on eight hits while striking out a pair in seven innings of work.


MESA, Ariz. — The University of Central Arkansas women’s golf team finished 10th on Sunday at the Notre Dame Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club.

Freshman Emma Svensson shot a final round 71 to tie for low round of the day and tied for 26th overall (76-77-71-224).

SMU won the tournament at 858, followed by TCU (866), Oklahoma (873), Notre Dame (874), Florida International (878), UNC-Wilmington (883), South Florida (889), Nebraska (909), Penn State (910), UCA (915), Tulsa (921), Cincinnati (924), Ole Miss (925), Columbia (943), IUPUI (944), UNC-Greensboro (955) and Central Michigan (968).
