COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina's unemployment rate continues to fall.

The Department of Employment and Workforce said Tuesday that the August unemployment rate is 5.1 percent, down from 5.2 percent the month before and the fourth straight month the rate has declined.

The 5.1 percent rate is the lowest in at least 15 years.

Nationally, the unemployment rate did not change in August, staying at 4.9 percent.

Not surprisingly for back to school, education and health services saw the most new jobs in South Carolina in August, adding 2,600 positions.

The unemployment rate in South Carolina was 6 percent in August 2015 and 10.2 percent in August 2011.
