The lighting and sound equipment in Central Baptist College’s Burgess Auditorium was installed in the late 1980s, and with a relatively new degree program in worship arts and many outside organizations that requests use of the auditorium, the college has decided it is necessary to upgrade.

The Burgess Auditorium is used for weekly chapel services, student body meetings and worship arts and music majors. Additionally, organizations outside of the college use the auditorium for recitals, ceremonies, corporate meetings and worship services. The room holds 555 people.

CBC Director of Public Relations Deanna Ott said the current equipment is becoming unreliable as it ages.

"You just hate to have sound issues with everything we do there," she said. "Over the last few years we’ve been looking for a solution to meet the needs of our students and visitors."

The estimated cost of the new equipment is $190,560. The college has set up a potential timeline where it would take six weeks between the removal of the existing equipment and training students on the new equipment.

Funds raised at the seventh annual Central Baptist College Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction will go toward the new equipment.

The benefit dinner and auction will be held on campus March 4. The night will begin in the Story Library at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction including sports team tickets, a kayak and overnight getaway packages.

During that time, guests will have an hors d’oeuvre dinner served "station style" to allow guests to look around the new library.

The silent auction ends at 6:30 and everyone will move to the Burgess Auditorium for a benefit concert by Ken Medema. Event attendees will have reserved seating at the concert.

Individual tickets are $50 and sponsorships range from $500 to $5,000.
