Greenbrier Middle School (GMS) East Garden Group was presented with a $500 check from Farm Bureau as a recipient of the Arkansas Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Outdoor Classroom Garden Grant.
The "Keep Digging Deeper" group has been working diligently on the garden project since October 2015 with the goal of growing vegetables and some fruit to send home with GMS students that may not be able to get enough food at home for their families.
The group’s hope is also to eventually grow enough produce to provide for the cafeteria in order to serve fresh vegetables. The group has had many donations, specifically from GMS teacher Pam Shirley. Shirley’s donations include a greenhouse and pots, the biggest necessities to get the garden started.
The progress of the garden can be seen between Highway 65 and building 2, near the newly added chicken coop.
