Volunteers of Soul Food Cafe Mission will hold a toy drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at Walmart on Dave Ward Drive.

The drive, named Our Children, was named so, according to Rick Harvey, director, because the group had traditionally used Toys for Tots to supply low-income or in need families with Christmas gifts.

Now, Harvey said, the need in Conway has exceeded the supplier.

"Our demand here is so that they have a hard time filling our order. We think Conway is such a generous community that we may be able to raise our own toys for our own children," Harvey said.

Harvey said the group is also working with local ministerial alliances and local churches to bring in toys through congregations.

The Our Children program requires participants to complete an application form, and children must reside in the home of the legal guardian.

Interested parties may request information by calling 501-514-5325.

Soul Food Cafe Mission operates out of the gymnasium of Four Winds Baptist Church, and provides breakfast and a hot lunch on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Mission also has a clothing pantry, open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and food boxes are given from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Harvey said toys would be given to approved applicants at the church, located at 2005 Dave Ward Drive, between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 14.
