This summer, Faulkner Academy of Arts will present Suessical!. Director Kristy Hutchinson has agreed to teach two drama classes to help actors prepare for the production.
Open auditions will be at the conclusion of classes on April 16.
Hutchinson received a bachelor of arts degree in theater from Lyon College. She has worked with various acting companies across the country, spending the majority of her career at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.
There will be a Drama I class for ages 7-11. Students will learn the fundamentals of acting for stage, learning how to be their B.E.S.T. (Body, Energy, Space, Time). Students will learn to be aware of their bodies, how their bodies can portray different types of energy, and how their bodies can move through space with various time or tempo. This class will also focus on developing diction, proper use of the diaphragm and focus.
The class will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 3-April 14 at the Faulkner Academy of Arts. Tuition is $100, and registration will be at the first class.
The Drama II class will be for ages 12 and up. In that class, students will learn to work together to create and develop characters, focusing on the individual as well as the group to better understand the importance of ensemble work as it translates to performing on a stage. Students will learn to project their voices, use their bodies, and begin to understand how to react to characters developed within the class time.
The class will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 3-April 14 at the Faulkner Academy of Arts. Tuition is $100, and registration will be at the first class.
