Patients and friends of Dr. Bryan Imamura stopped by Thursday to see CARTI’s amazing new TrueBeam Accelerator.

The system will offer patients the most state-of-the art linear accelerator available in the world.

Right here in Conway.

Imamura is CARTI/Conway’s Radiation Oncologist. He was beaming as he explained that only a few clinics across the nation have TrueBeam.

"I know it will make a difference in the lives of our patients and add to our arsenal in the fight against cancer," he said.

Patients have been driving to other CARTI satellite clinics since January, while the new system was installed.

Officials say TrueBeam allows greater precision and accuracy in delivering the most effective dose of radiation to the tumor site.

Specifically, Imamura said, "The TrueBeam system allows the treatment team to see the tumor as the radiation is delivered. The machine knows to mold the beam to the exact shape of the mass within 1/100th of a millimeter, reducing damage to healthy tissue and decreasing treatment time for patients.

"The machine is revolutionary to radiation therapy," Dr. Imamura said.

"The TrueBeam’s pinpoint accuracy makes it possible to treat many different types of tumors, including those in sensitive areas; such as the abdomen, liver, lung, breast and head and neck.

"The treatment time is also reduced, further benefiting the patient," Imamura said.

CARTI/Conway treats about 250 patients with radiation each year, with some getting treatment daily over the course of several weeks, destroying cancerous cells while preserving as much of the surrounding healthy tissue as possible.
