FAYETTEVILLE — An administrator says the Fayetteville High School athletic director has resigned, effective immediately, following his arrest for felony online child stalking.

Superintendent Vicki Thomas told Fayetteville television station KHOG on Friday that she accepted the resignation of 50-year-old Barry Gebhart.

Thomas says the district is cooperating with police.

Gebhart was arrested Tuesday after he used a social-networking application to set up a meeting with someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl. An arrest affidavit says Gebhart was actually communicating with a police detective. The document says Gebhart discussed sex and the supposed victim's age.

Gebhart was arrested when he showed up at a Rogers mall to meet the girl. He's free on $75,000 bond. It's not clear whether he has an attorney yet.
