LITTLE ROCK — Little Rock banking executive French Hill says he's running for the Republican nomination for a U.S. House seat in central Arkansas.

Hill on Tuesday announced his bid for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin. Griffin announced this month that he wouldn't seek re-election to the seat he has held since 2011.

Hill is the first Republican to announce a bid for the seat since Griffin opted against running. Former North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays last week announced he would seek the Democratic nomination. State Rep. Ann Clemmer is expected to announce Wednesday whether she'll run for the GOP nomination.

Hill is the founder of Delta Trust & Banking Corp. and is the company's chairman and chief executive officer.
