The Conway Police Department continues to investigate a Saturday night shooting that involved an off-duty Little Rock police officer at her home in Conway during a reported home invasion.

Lora Montano, 24, called police Saturday night to report a break in of her home on Gabrial Street, CPD spokesman LaTresha Woodruff said in a news release.

"Once at the scene they learned from Montano that she woke up to her dog barking and someone kicking-in her door," Woodruff said. "She told investigators that she got her gun, went to check out the noise and encountered a black male dressed in all black inside her home and she fired her weapon at him."

Montano, a Little Rock police officer who was off duty at the time of the shooting, told CPD that the man ran from the scene and "she wasn’t sure if she had shot him," Woodruff said.

Conway Regional Medical Center called Conway police Sunday morning about a man, later identified as 25-year-old Herschel Brigance, who had a gunshot wound he reportedly told medical staff he sustained while being robbed in Little Rock.

"However, through the course of the investigation, detectives developed Brigance as the suspect in the home invasion on Gabrial Street from Saturday night," Woodruff said.

Brigance was listed as a current inmate at the Faulkner County Detention Center on a charge of residential burglary Monday morning. No bond amount or court date was listed.
