Faulkner County Retired Teachers Association

The association met on March 15 in the First Baptist Church Activity Center with 38 members present. A new member, Catherine Spinks, was introduced and welcomed.

Doretta Bright introduced Vivian Lawson Hogue who entertained the group with her reflections on "What’s New About the Old."

The minutes of the February meeting and a treasurer’s report were presented. Freda Prince introduced the hosts/hostesses for the meeting Denver Prince, Francis Springstead, Bronnie Rose, Sara Andrews, Sandra Bradberry and Marietta Hurley.

Hervey Galloway that members reported 423 community service hours for March. The two members reporting the most hours were Sandra Bradberry with 100 hours, and Sharon Rapp with 89 hours.

Education student Holly Treece was introduced by Freda Prince as being the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the group’s scholarship fund.

President Bobby Broach announced that a meeting of the current officers would be held to set a slate of officers for the 2016/2017 year. He also reported that the unit meeting will be held as planned on May 17.

Membership dues for the 2016/2017 year can be paid beginning now through June. The next meeting will be April 19.

President Broach led a prayer to close the meeting. All enjoyed refreshments and fellowship.

Laureate Alpha Omega chapter, Beta Sigma Phi

The first March meeting was held at the home of Linda Alverson with five members present.

Sondra Pugh served as co-hostess. A light supper of ham salad sandwiches, chips, coffee and Hawaiian tea with an apple crisp dessert and ice cream was served.

The meeting was called to order by President Sondra Pugh, who led the Opening Ritual. The upcoming Founder’s Day dinner and our annual ways and means project were discussion topics.

For our program, Linda Alverson read an inspirational poem about forever friends from the book "Seasons of the Heart."

The chapter’s second March meeting was held at Faby’s

Restaurant, with six members present. Hostess Janet Jones provided appetizers and everyone ordered their favorite Mexican dish.

President Sondra Pugh called the business meeting to order. She reported that the BSP Founder’s Day will be held April 26 at the Conway Country Club. Former BSP members will be invited to attend.

Our next meeting will be at the home of Vernelle Crews.
