Kathryn Grace Langston’s hobbies of dancing and singing recently took her to a national stage.
Originally, she entered a state contest this past spring through Irby Studio of Dance in Conway.
She placed in the Top 10 at the state competition and received an invitation to be a member of the National Finals 2009 Talent on Parade Top Starz Performance Dance Team. The 2009 Top Starz consisted of 115 girls from around the nation. The national dance team practiced and performed at the Branson Convention Center in Branson, Mo., on July 8-12. Top Starz Choreographer was Kari Tafoya, a professional dancer, national dance clinician, Olympic ice skating instructor and owner/director of Synergy Dance Academy of Colorado Springs, Colo.
In Branson, Langston also competed in the 9-10 age level National Finals Jazz Dance Solos and received a Top First Trophy dancing to "Gotta Be You."
The jazz dance was choreographed by Nicole Edmonds, who is Langston’s dance instructor at Irby Studio of Dance. She competed in the vocal category at Branson’s Talent on Parade and received a first place trophy singing "Too Cool."
The vocal rendition was taught by her mom, Frances Langston, private piano and vocal instructor, and her dad, David Langston, Conway Public Schools secondary choral director.
Besides the Top Starz instruction with Kari Tafoya, Langston was also a member of Tafoya’s master class at the National Finals special event.
