An orientation class for parents interested in the Suzuki violin method will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the University of Central Arkansas Snow Fine Arts Center, room 312.

UCA Community School of Music instructors Susan and Michael Burkepile will meet with interested parents and children, explain the Suzuki violin method of instruction and measure children for proper instrument size.

This is an informational meeting for parents who are interested in learning more about early violin training for their children.  Students interested in more traditional violin instruction are welcome to attend also.  The Burkepiles teach both Suzuki and traditional methods of instruction and welcome students of all ages.

Suzuki violin (or talent dducation method), for children age 4 and up, is available for parents looking for a different approach to musical instruction for their young beginners.  Young beginners learn to play the violin based on the same philosophy and methods in which they learned to speak, through listening, repetition and positive reinforcement.  Parental involvement and support at home is especially important for very young learners.

Lessons through the UCA CSM begin Aug. 24.  For further information, contact Jann Bryant, UCA CSM director, at 450-5755 or e-mail Jannb@uca.edu.
