The Conway Lady Cats’ quest for another 7A-Central Conference championship got off to a strong start.

The Lady Cats opened the 2009 season with a 18-25, 25-13, 25-14, 15-25, 15-13 win over Benton on Tuesday night at Wampus Cat Arena. The match was the first of the season for Conway, which has won a conference title every year since 1994 except for one (2006).

Mary Dunlap had a strong attack game, recording 19 kills. She also did well on the defensive end, finishing with a team-high seven blocks.

Breezy Murphy chipped in seven assists, while Chelsey Hess and Payton Hart were next in blocks with three and two, respectively. Hart (3) and Hess (2) led the way in aces.

Hart also played a large role on the offensive side, netting 31 assists.

Alexis Robertson finished with a team-high 14 digs, while Hess finished with four.

Conway also won the junior varsity match, taking a 22-25, 25-11, 15-11 decision.

Madison Dayer had a double-double of 19 digs and 10 kills. Julia Pettit and Ashley Johnson both had 12 assists each. Caitlyn Carroll finished with 14 digs.

Conway returns to action Thursday at Valley View.
