LITTLE ROCK (AP) — A gas station in Magnolia will be the first retailer licensed to sell Arkansas' lottery tickets when they're up and running next month.

The Arkansas Lottery Commission plans today to issue the first license for a retailer for ticket sales. The lottery is expected to begin selling scratch-off tickets Sept. 28.

Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue says the first license will be issued to a gas station operated by Murphy Oil USA, Inc. in Magnolia. The El Dorado-based company has applied for licenses at its 57 stations around the state.

More than 1,100 locations have applied for licenses to sell tickets, and Passailaigue says he expects to have between 1,500 and 1,800 licensed by Sept. 28.
