LITTLE ROCK — St. Joseph opened its volleyball season with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-12 victory over Little Rock Episcopal.
"The first games are always tough," Lady Bulldogs coach Luke Davis said. "You have to overcome the nerves and rust, and I think the girls did a good job. Episcopal is a well-coached team and always seems to be in the state tournament so it was a good win. However, its’ early and there are a lot of things we need to improve on before conference play next week."
Amy Schichtl led the Lady Bulldogs in kills with seven. Jessica Justice had six aces and served out 22 points over the three games, including 10 in a row in game three. She added 15 assists and had 13 digs.
Katie Reinhard had three aces. Courtney Briggler had six blocks and Schichtl three.
Episcopal won the JV game 25-23, 7-25, 15-13. Savannah Cooper had three kills for St. Joseph and Brandi Elsinger had two. Samantha Hoelzeman had eight assists.

GREENBRIER — Greenbrier defeated Beebe and Jacksonville in a volleyball tri-match here Thursday.
The Lady Panthers downed Beebe, 25-15, 26-24.
Brittany Edwards, Morgan Colclasure, Kalea Hogg, Madison King, Abby Mallett, Mackenzie Mallett, Jessica Nichols and Kayla Waters were all perfect on serving. Edwards had nine straight points off serves, and Kalea Hogg had six straight. Edwards added six aces. Nichols had three digs and four kills. Hogg, Mallett, and Richard had two blocks apiece. Kayla Waters had three blocks and three kills. Jessica Nichols and Hannah Porter had a strong defensive game.
Greenbrier downed Jacksonville, 25-15, 25-18. Hogg, Edwards and Nichols all were perfect on serving. Hogg added four aces and Richard three blocks. Nichols and Porter were again defensive standouts, according to coach Cindy Hartman.
BCMS 8TH grade
The Bob Courtway Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team recently recorded two straight victories to open the season, both in straight sets.
Wednesday, the Lady Kittens defeated Benton 27-25, 25-15. BCMS also took down Sheridan on Monday, 25-15, 25-20.
Bailey McKee, Ashley Bernard and Alyssa Strickland led the Lady Kittens’ attack Wednesday, recording five kills each. McKee also had six aces, while Sidney Mitchum and Gabby Spellmann had five and four straight service points, respectively. Avery Taylor and Gabbie Roark had a strong defensive performance, BCMS coach Shannon Thomey said.
In Monday’s match, the Lady Kittens were led by Hope Ison and Bernard’s serving. Ison had seven straight service points, and Bernard recorded six.

VILONIA JUNIOR HIGH
VILONIA — Vilonia swept Russellville on Wednesday night in junior high volleyball.
The ninth-graders won, 25-16, 25-19. Macie Loggins served 9-of-10, and Ashley Mulligan was 4-of-4. Ashlyn Hightower had 1 kill and five blocks.
The eighth-grade team won 25-22, 25-23. Catie Lloyd was 7-for-7 on serves, and Madison Martinez had two kills and three blocks.
