Dr. Fred K. Bellott, 83, of Collierville, Tenn., passed away Aug. 29, 2009. He retired from the University of Memphis as associate dean of the College of Education and also retired from New Mexico State University at Las Cruses.  

He was a prior member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis and was a current member of Collierville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pebble and Finley Bellott and his step-father Jones Newton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris J. Branning Bellott; daughters, Suzie Faulk (Mike) of Antioch, Calif., Cathy McCollum (Rick) of Collierville; sons, John Bellott of Memphis, Rick Bellott (Robin) of Collierville, Tenn.; sister, Helen Snipan of Sherwoods; brother, Charles Bellott of Quitman; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and the funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, both at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Interment will be held in Memory Hill Gardens.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis or Collierville United Methodist Church.
