St. Joseph’s volleyball team will go into the weekend undefeated as Thursday’s match with McCory has been canceled.
The Lady Bulldogs (13-0, 8-0) defeated Rose Bud on Tuesday, and coach Luke Davis is stressing focus.
"We don’t want any letdowns from here on out," Davis said. "We have the toughest part of our schedule coming up and we have to remain focused."
St. Joseph goes back into conference action Tuesday against Nemo Vista. The Lady Bulldogs’ last four conference matches include a home bout with Conway Christian, and a road trip to Cave City.
"We want to be able to go into the district tournament with a little bit of a swagger," Davis said. "The girls all have shirts that say, ‘Try to copy our swagger.’ We want to be that team in the state tournament that every team wants to beat."
Davis’ blue-collar work mentality has rubbed off on the Lady Bulldogs, as St. Joseph starts everything on the defensive end.
"We’ve been good on defense and I’ve been real happy with our passes," Davis said. "Jordan Justice starts it all with our passing. I have all the confidence in her because I know that she’s going to set people up in the right spots."
Davis praised Amy Schichtl, Courtney Briggler and Katy Reinhard for their play at the nets on both sides, offense and defense.
"Something that we have now that we didn’t have the first year I started coaching here is some actual hitters," Davis said. ‘We still have to keep getting better, and we have been doing that with each game. We just have to stay focus and keep trying to get better."
