Memberships are available now for the fourth season of the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, set for June 16-July 3, 2010, at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus.
The festival’s four productions will include Shakespeare’s classic Henry V; his hilarious first play, Comedy of Errors; the spooky classic Dracula; and a special children’s production of Alice in Wonderland.
"If you’re looking for some compelling drama and beautiful verse, we’ve got Henry V. If you’re looking for belly laughs and a way to introduce kids to the Bard, we’ve got Comedy of Errors. Everyone loves Dracula, and it’ll be a scary (but not too scary) night of theatre for all ages. Alice in Wonderland is everything great about theatre for youth: a great story that takes kids on a journey and asks them to step away from the TV and really use their imagination. It’s a great season and a fantastic reason to get out of the house in June."
Chiorini said more than 10,000 tickets were sold for AST’s first three seasons, with 40 percent of the festival’s supporters visiting Conway from elsewhere in the region.
The AST is also re-starting its membership packages separate from the subscription series. With levels of support ranging from $50 to $1000, these tax-deductible donations come with many perks for festival-goers and supporters of this one-of-a-kind festival.
He added that AST and Reynolds officials are hard at work on a new sound system so that every patron can adequately hear.
More information on AST members can be found at www.arkshakes.com. Donors may send their tax-deductible contributions to the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre at UCA Box 5136, Conway, AR 72035. People already donating to the UCA Foundation may designate a portion of their donation be allocated to the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre Fund.
