ARKADELPHIA — Central Baptist College took Henderson State University to the wire Monday before losing 90-86.

The Mustangs led by as much as six the first half before the Reddies of the Gulf South Conference of NCAA II began hitting 3-pointers to take a 12-point lead with four minutes left in the half. THe Mustangs (9-6) cut the deficit to seven at the break.

In the second half, the Mustangs hit a hot streak and a pair of 3-pointers by Ryan Barnes gave them a six-point lead with four minutes left. 

HSU trimmed the deficit to 86-85 with 30 seconds left. The Mustangs’ CJ McCoy missed the front of a one-and-one with 16 seconds left and CB C was called for a foul on the rebound. The Reddies made both free throws and three more foul shots in the final seconds to increase their lead.

"I am extremely proud of my guys. We played our tails off tonight and was in the position to win," said CBC coach Josh Austin. "We played as a team on both ends."

 The Mustangs had four in double figures.  Barnes led the way with 24 points on five of six from behind the arc. McCoy ended with 19.  Rodderick Briggs and Michael Holder finished with 10.  

CBC will go on Christmas break until Dec. 29 when they will have another tough test in NCAA Division I Arkansas State University.  Tip off is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
