Wanda Southerland passed away on Dec. 22, 2009 in Searcy.

She was born March 26, 1924, to B.C. and Pearl (Altom) Sharp of Floral, the fourth of five children. She married Lowell Southerland in 1941, and they had three sons. Wanda lived most of her life in central Arkansas, living in Morrilton for almost 30 years before moving to Searcy, where she spent her final years. She was a schoolteacher, a devout Baptist and was a bible teacher for children and adults for more than 45 years.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her three sons, Julian Southerland of Kingman, Ariz., Norman Southerland of Searcy and Dwight Southerland of Conway; one sister, Maxine Hicks; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel, Searcy, at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow at the Concord Cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home.
