Expression pupils of Mrs. Walter Scales presented a recital in the Conway High School auditorium. Those appearing on the program were Martha Goode, John E. Lyon, Marjorie Hartje, Mary Ann Holt, Lilliard Lee Bolls, Betty Alice Crafton, Sarah Goode, Marilyn Hartje, Thurman Rowlett Jr., Mozelle Mitchell, Emma Carolyn Calhoun, Arthur Dunaway, Virginia Cole, Barbara Parsons, Mildred Carter, Helen Hall, Nell Rose Simmons, Mary Ellen Smith, Janelle Gunn, Anna Wheat, Letitia Neal, Margaret Evelyn Carpenter, Sarah Ruth Allison, Nita Brummett, Alleen Ott, Juanita Patton and Janice Hobbs.

S. -Sgt. And Mrs. Robert Irby and children, Karen and Alan of Belton, Mo., were spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Irby, and he parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Holloway. 

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Dow and sons, David, Rob and Paul, Collinsville, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bumpers and children, Bonnie and Paul, of Batesville and Mrs. and Mrs. W.B. Callan of Wichita Falls, Texas, were holiday guests of Mrs. Dow and Mrs. Bumpers’ parents Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Bumpers. Mr. and Mrs. Dow and children also visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Down.

Dr. James S. Garrison Jr. was named 1985 president of the Faulkner County Board of the American Heart Association. Garrison was a radiologist at Conway Memorial Hospital. Two men of Company B, 489th Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve, received promotions. Pfc. William Crawford was promoted to specialist four, and Pvt. 2 Alan C. McCray was promoted to first class.

Dr. George B. Platt announced the opening of his dental practice in the Doctors Building, University and I-30 in Little Rock.

(1999)

Winners were announced in the Conway Noon Lions Club 1999-2000 Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Theme for the contest was "A New Beginning for Peace." Winners included: Vilonia Middle School student Tasha Bowie, Carl Stuart Middle School students Randi Ferrell, Kinsey Steward and Ragan Moore and Bob Couryway middle School students Ashley Goode, Cassie Johnson and Kimberly Heflin. 

Receiving honorable mention were Crystal Radziwon, Kyle Holcomb, Christina Campbell, Karissa White, Stefoni New, Joshua Bland, Bryant Howell and Amber Hall. Bryan Gilette was chairman of the contest and Laavonne Harrell and Jan Mallett served as judges. Art teachers for the students were Beverly McGwire, Becky Thornton and Suzanne Kunkel.
