Hassel Hunt Rowland, 91, died Feb. 16, 2010.

She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Harrison, the daughter of the late Julia Robinson Hunt and George Robert Hunt.

Her husband, Roger Denton Rowland, preceded her in death on May 26, 1989.

For many years, she lived in Clarksville, where she and her husband operated the Western Auto.

She moved to Leeds, Ala., in December of 1998.

She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2001, living with her daughter Patsy for almost four years before transferring to nursing home care.

In Arkansas, she was a resident of St. Andrew’s Place.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway.

She was a talented poet and artist and spent many hours writing her family history.

Though a quiet and unassuming person, she charmed everyone she met with her sweet smile and loving disposition.

Survivors include her two daughters, Patsy Desaulniers and her husband Tom and Elizabeth Anderson and her husband David and their daughter Mary Margaret, who had a special place as the only grandchild.

Special thanks to the staff of St. Andrews Place in Conway, who provided loving care to Mrs. Hassel during her long battle with Alzheimer’s.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Boone County Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 1094, Harrison, Ark., 72601, or any other charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 1100 West Bower, Harrison, Ark., at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 20.
