Marie Castleberry, of Dallas, formerly of Conway, age 99 passed away Feb. 19, 2010 at Holden Hands Home, Dallas, where she resided for the past seven years. She was born Feb. 1, 1911 in Howe, Olka., she was the youngest of 12 children. Marie moved to Arkansas after she married the love of her life, Jack Castleberry, who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1950.

After the death of her husband, who was Sheriff of Faulkner County, Marie had the distinction of finishing out his term and becoming the first and only woman sheriff of Faulkner County. Her photo hangs in the sheriffs’ picture gallery, along with her husband and other family members, in the Faulkner County courthouse. Marie moved to Dallas in 1956, and worked for the Baptist Annuity Board (Guidestone) until retiring. She joined First Baptist Church of Dallas in 1956 and was active in several areas, especially the adult choir, singing and praising the Lord until her health prevented her continuing.

Marie is survived by a son, Bob Castleberry, and wife, Joanne of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Barbara Hudson of Dallas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
