The Central Baptist College men’s basketball team (17-10) drew the No. 5 seed in the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Central Regional Tournament in Waxahachie, Texas, this week.
CBC was ranked third in the region until the Mustangs dropped the final four games of their season. The Mustangs will face fourth-seeded Ecclesia College at 3 p.m. Thursday in the first round. The Royals won the last two meetings against the Mustangs, 71-67 and 67-64.
"We could not ask for a better first-round game than this," CBC coach Josh Austin said. "We have lost to Ecclesia both times this year by less than 10 points. When I told our guys who we were playing, all I could see were grins. They are very excited for another shot."
The Mustangs have finished the past two regular seasons with 39 wins, including going 16-2 at home.
"I believe we have the best college atmosphere around," Austin said. "Our students are energetic and our attendance has tripled over the past few years. I give all of the credit to our players. They are a great group to watch."
If CBC wins, the Mustangs will play the winner between top-seeded Dallas Baptist and eighth-seeded Central Christian.
