The U16 Arkansas Rush ‘94 girls soccer team continued their history-making season with a runner-up finish in the national President’s Cup in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The girls team from Conway, which won state and regional titles, were the first Arkansas soccer team, male or female, to compete in a national tournament.

The national tournament featured regional champions from St. Louis, Los Angeles and Manhattan, N.Y. 

The Rush went into the championship game in first place after downing Manhattan 3-0.

It was a long and intense final day. The Rush and the South Bay Force team from Los Angeles were scoreless after regulation and two 15-minute overtimes. After two hours of play in 100-degree heat on the Middle Tennesse State University campus, the Los Angeles team took the title, going 4-2 on penalty kicks.

The Rush’s Caitlyn Carroll was the top scorer in the U16 tournament. Other scorers for the Arkansas team were Julia Pettit, Ashley Johnson, Micah Tipton, Kyndal Leffert and Sydney Myer. Keep Britannie Ashcraft set a record for saves.
