Conway fans can get a sampling of what’s ahead in fall sports today with three major sports events, two encased in one package.

The 27th Wampus Cats Steak-Out will feature a tailgate meal sandwiched by intrasquad scrimmages for volleyball and football that will involve teams seventh grade to varsity.

At First Security Field at Estes Stadium, the University of Central Arkansas Bears will go through their final major scrimmage of the preseason beginning at 4 p.m.

The Volleyball Showcase, which will feature intrasquad scrimmages involving all Conway Public Schools teams, will be from 1-5 p.m. at Buzz Bolding Area.

The tailgate party at John McConnell Stdium will be from 5-6:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., Conway Public Schools teams will be involved in intrasquad scrimmages from seventh-grade, middle school, ninth-grade and varsity.

Admission is $6 (kindergarten and up). That includes both the Volleyball Showcase and the football scrimmages plus the tailgate meal that includes a chopped steak burger, baked beans, chips, dessert and a drink. There is a $2 admission charge for those not tailgating.

The Volleyball Showcase and Steak-Out are major fund-raisers for the volleyball and football programs.

The Bears will go through a controlled scrimmage in preparation for their season opener against Elizabeth City State on Sept. 2.

There is no admission charge.

"We’ll be paying a lot of attention to detail and fundamentals and it is our last big evaluation scrimmage," Conque said. "We have some fierce battles for starting positions, but this scrimmage could also make a difference in someone making the travel squad or a decision on whether a player should be redshirted. After this scrimmage and evaluation, we’ll go right on to game prep."
