Central Baptist College’s womens’ soccer team opened the season Monday with a 1-0 overtime win over Southwest Assemblies of God.
Jessica Wisenor, a freshman forward, served in a ball that was settled and then put into the back of the night by senior forward Bekkah Elrod.
"To open the season with a dramatic win is huge for us", said coach Justin Hawkins.
We have a lot of new girls and this will help us build confidence.
Rachel Rodgers, a junior from Hot Springs, recorded the shutout in goal.
The CBC men defeated Southwest Assemblies, 2-0.
In the 19th minute, senior defender Jacob Rutledge made a run and served a ball that junior midfielder, T.J. Rodriguez finished with a one-touch volley. In the 53rd minute, freshmen midfielder Ryan Pelser played a great through ball to sophomore forward Sabelo Hlongwane. He, dribbled the keeper and slid the ball into the back. Junior keeper Chance Murphy got the shutout win and only faced three shots on goal.
The Mustangs play again at home at Centennial Park on Friday with the women at 4 p.m. and the men at 6 p.m.
