After a 1-3 start, Conway High School’s challenging nonconference volleyball schedule continues tonight when the Lady Cats open at home against defending Class 7A state champion Fort Smith Southside, a longtime nemesis.

Conway, which placed second in its pool last weekend in the Little Rock Spikefest Tournament, begins conference play at home Thursday against Mount St. Mary.

"We have been trying several different line-ups to try to find the best one," Lady Cats coach Laura Crow said. "The thing we are trying to focus the most on is being consistent and trying to eliminate errors. We are a very young team and have several sophomores and juniors who are contributing.

"With only two seniors, these young players are stepping in and improving each match. The tournament was really good because we were able to try different things and see which would work best. Each match we play, we are seeing improvement. We will have to focus on closing out leads, and finishing matches strong."

Also over the weekend, St. Joseph won five straight matches on the way to the championship of the Cave City tournament. The Lady Bulldogs (6-0), who will host Atkins tonight, downed Harding Academy in the finals.
