NORTH LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Police say a school resource officer on the East Campus of North Little Rock High School shot and wounded a driver crossing the campus, but no students were involved.
Sgt. Terry Kuykendall, spokesman for the North Little Rock Police Department, said a resource officer assigned to the school tried to stop a car being driven through the campus Thursday afternoon at high speed by an adult.
Kuykendall said the car stopped, then moved forward again, striking the officer, who landed on the car’s hood. He said another officer assigned to the campus fired shots at the driver, who was struck at least once.
Kuykendall said the wounded driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday evening. Kuykendall said the officer struck by the car was also hospitalized, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
The police spokesman declined to provide names of any of the three people involved in the incident.
