LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says he expects legislation to cut Arkansas’ grocery tax by a half-cent on the dollar to be filed in the next seven to 10 days.
Beebe told members of the Political Animals Club on Wednesday he’s talked with lawmakers to see if they want to back the tax cut. Beebe told reporters afterward that he didn’t know who would introduce the measure and didn’t have a headcount on who supports it in the House and Senate.
Beebe proposed the tax cut last year as part of his $4.6 billion budget for the coming fiscal year.
Republicans have said they want to see if there’s room for other tax cuts, but Beebe has said it can’t be done without hurting state services.
