Relay for Life — the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser for cancer research — takes off at 6 p.m. Friday at the Conway Expo Center.

Closing ceremonies will be at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Relay for Life provides information and support to millions of people who will have cancer this year.

The local Relay is packed with activities, including a "Dude Looks Like a Lady Pageant" for the manliest relayers.

Also, Timbo Productions will provide music, and Arkansas’ Best Photobooth will be on hand to provide mementos.

The event will include entertainment and food at "campsites." Games will be available for children 2 and up, and local musicians will perform on stage.

Other events include individually led activities, a live auction and a Luminaria service to remember those who’ve been touched by cancer. JR Runyon, of My Country Y107, will be the special host for the event.

Thirty-three teams are registered and hope to raise funds throughout the night. The Relay for Life of Faulkner County has raised more than $17,000 and has 245 participants, according to the group’s website.

Attendance is free and open to the public. The public can bring a canned good to donate to CAPA.
